Lap Timer Case Fitting Guide: 22mm, 28mm or No Mount

Choosing a lap timer case starts with two checks: the exact device you own and how you want to mount it. This guide explains the 22mm, 28mm and No Mount options on Smith Developments protective cases.

1. Check your lap timer model

Read the model name on your device and compare it with the compatibility information on the product page. Similar-looking devices can need different cases. If you are unsure, send a clear photo and the model name to sales@smith-developments.co.uk before ordering.

2. Measure at the mounting position

Measure the outside diameter of the handlebar exactly where the case mount will sit. Do not use the grip diameter as a substitute: the bar may have a different diameter nearer the centre. A calliper is useful for checking this measurement.

  • 22mm: choose this option when the intended mounting position measures 22mm.
  • 28mm: choose this option when the intended mounting position measures 28mm.
  • A different measurement or uncertainty: contact us before ordering. Do not assume the nearest option will fit.

3. What does No Mount mean?

No Mount means the case is supplied without the handlebar mounting legs. Choose it when your setup does not need those legs to mount to a handlebar. It does not make the case universal or change the lap timer model it fits. Check the product's listed contents and discuss your intended setup with us if needed.

4. Check space around the case

Before ordering, check that there is room for the case, its mounting parts, cables and nearby controls. Consider the position of brake lines and cables as the handlebars move. A fitted photo is an example of one setup, not a guarantee of fit on another bike.

5. Choose your colour and personalisation

Select the case colour and Single Colour or Multi Colour on the product page. For Multi Colour, choose the lettering colour and enter a name, race number, or both in the fields provided. For logos or a particular design, contact us before ordering to agree what is possible and any additional cost.

Find the case for your device

Before riding

Follow the supplied fitting instructions and the equipment manufacturer's guidance. Have installation checked by a suitably competent person if needed. Inspect the case and fixings before use, and stop using them if anything is damaged or loose. A protective case does not guarantee protection against every impact, water exposure or other damage.
